In der Sendung Matrix vom letzten Sonntag auf OE1 gab es ein Interview mit mir zum Thema Algorithmen und Vorurteile. Hier kann man die Sendung noch eine Weile hören.
Morgen bin ich zu Gast in der Länderzeit auf Deutschlandfunk. Es geht um Videoüberwachung. Weitere Gäste sind Stefan Mayer (MdB, Innenpolitischer Sprecher der CDU/CSU-Bundestagsfraktion), Dr. Imke Sommer (Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit des Landes Bremen) und Michael Temme (leitender Polizeidirektor und Direktionsleiter Gefahrenabwehr/ Einsatz, Polizeipräsidium Köln)
Last month I have been at the 3TU.Centre for Ethics and Technology in Twente as a visiting scholar. I’ve had very inspiring workshops and discussions. They’ve also produced a short interview about my current work and my background, which can be found on their homepage.
I have organized and hosted this year’s panel of the Forum Privacy at CPDP. We have been discussing whether there should be a right for offline technologies. The video is now online.
The new book Data Protection on the Move that is now available from Springer contains a paper which I have written with colleagues from the Forum Privacy: Carsten Ochs, Philipp K. Masur and Thilo von Pape. In “DIY Data Protection — Empowerment or Burden?” we discuss both empirically and normatively how much responsibility for data protection can and should rest on the individual. In particular we point out the dangers of a perspective on data protection that just asks what the citizens can do rather than taking into account the role of states and companies.
Das von meinem Kollegen Matthias Leese und mir geleitete Projekt “How smart is ‘smart security’? Exploring data subjectivity and resistance” wurde erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Ausführliche Experteninterviews geben Einblick in die geplanten Vorhaben, den Flugverkehr durch “smart security” zu gestalten.
Am Donnerstag, den 3.12. nehme ich an einer Podiumsdiskussion in Stuttgart teil. Sie trägt den Titel Freiheit versus Sicherheit: Politischer und religiöser Extremismus – eine Gefahr für die Demokratie? Mit dabei sind Beate Bube , Präsidentin des Landesamt für Verfassungsschutz Baden-Württemberg, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Goll Justizminister a.D. und Dr. Lothar Frick, Direktor der Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Baden-Württemberg.
Tomorrow I’ll take part in a workshop with Srećko Horvat and Simon Mills on love and new technologies, organized by Mareike Foecking as part of the Werkkonferenz at the Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf. There will be a public panel discussion at 16.00 o’clock.
I will also moderate the final panel discussion of the conference, about “new tools” in design, architecture, production, and advertising.
